Please join us on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at 5:00 pm at the monthly Fire Commission meeting to say thank you to EFR crews who will get that rare opportunity – to meet with a life that they saved. (21500 Three Oaks Parkway, Estero, FL)
October 3, 2012 – Life and death is often determined by minutes or even seconds. No one knows this better than the firefighter/EMT’s and firefighter/paramedics of Estero Fire Rescue. These brave men and women help save lives every day and are called when precious moments to save a life hang in the balance but seldom get to see the patients they’ve cared for once they are transported to the hospital.
On July 11, 2012 crews consisting of Lt. Tom Lentz, Lt. Steve Harris, FF Cory Heller and Engineer Laura Whelan responded to a call for a cardiac arrest at Stir Crazy in Coconut Point Mall. Upon arriving, they found a 58 year old male in cardiac arrest with bystanders performing CPR. EFR personnel took over CPR, provided defibrillation and medication to bring the man back to life.
Survival was made possible by the quick action of bystanders, immediate use of CPR and the lifesaving skills and equipment of Estero Fire Rescue and its personnel.
Estero Fire Rescue offers regular classes on CPR, first aid and automatic external defibrillator training. Contact our office to join a class and visit our website at www.esterofire.org to learn how you can save a life.
Crews removed the door of the Lexus and carefully extricated the patient from the seat belt and the surrounding vehicle. The patient along with the driver of the Lexus was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
