Regularly Scheduled Educational Courses Offered

CERT
PROGRAM – This is an eight-week program scheduled for once a week to train citizens to
become
CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) members.
The classes teach members to handle disaster type situations in
the community when the fire district is unable to reach them for 48 - 72
hours. Participants are taught
to work in teams to conduct basic search and rescue, basic fire
suppression, administer basic first aid to a disaster struck area until
professional rescuers arrive. CERT (Community

FILE OF LIFE
– This medical information program was designed to help fire
rescue personnel with needed medical information for the patient. The
medical information is filled out by the patient prior to any emergency
and is hung on the refrigerator inside the patient’s home. If the
patient is unconscious or unable to provide medical information, then
the medics are able to retrieve this information.
FIRE EXTINGUISHER PROGRAM – Estero Fire Rescue offers fire extinguisher program(s) to
businesses, civic organizations and community subdivisions to promote
the correct usage and maintenance a fire extinguisher. This
program covers fire behavior, exit drills, type of fires, extinguishers
types and usage. Live fire training can be performed
outside using fire extinguishers.
FIRE TRUCK
DEMONSTRATION
– We will provide a fire truck to a school or special event to
promote fire safety. Truck demos offer the community an up-close look
at the tools and equipment that is on a fire truck.
BABYSITTING COURSE
– This course describes the proper usage of the 911
system, household safety, basic first aid, fire safety, fire
extinguisher operations, child and infant CPR along with choking
treatment techniques. This will help in preparing child caregivers.
CPR PROGRAMS –
Estero Fire Rescue is a certified BLS (Basic Life Support)
Community Training Center for the American Heart Association
(AHA). Courses are taught to the community on the first Saturday
of every month or private classes can be arranged. Participants are
taught by certified AHA instructors that teach how the EMS system works,
recognize a stroke, angina, heart attack and cardiac arrest.
Techniques for CPR for adults, children and infants along with treatment
of choking victims are also taught.
Graduates
receive a two-year CPR card from AHA.
FIRST AID
PROGRAMS
– Estero Fire Rescue provides
a basic first aid course that meets the requirements of the Florida
Department of Children and Family Services. Participants will learn to
perform primary and secondary patient surveys, monitor vitals, patient
management and the care in basic first aid for medical emergencies. Classes
are taught on Saturdays and graduates will receive a
two-year certificate from Estero Fire Rescue.
PROGRAMS – Estero
Fire Rescue provides knowledge and performance of adult CPR and airway
management along with the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).
Students registration for this course would be individuals
that would be required by employment to respond to medical emergencies
with an AED. This two-year certification is instructed by AHA
certified instructors.
JUVENILE
FIRESETTERS PROGRAMS – Estero
Fire Rescue participates in the Lee County Juvenile Firesetters Network.
This program was implemented to help all juveniles who have been caught
playing with fire or starting a fire. Other participants include, the
Florida State Fire Marshal’s office, Florida Department of
Agricultural and Lee County Juvenile Justice System to provide juveniles
education as an alternative.
FREE SMOKE
ALARM PROGRAM – Estero Fire Rescue and Home Depot jointly provide Estero
residents with free smoke alarms. The partnership will provide one free
smoke alarm per year for residents. If the resident is unable to install
the smoke alarm, EFR will install free.
FIRE PREVENTION
& LIFE SAFETY LECTURES – Estero Fire Rescue provides fire
prevention and life safety lectures to the community at no charge. Fire
Rescue personnel can speak on many different fire prevention and life
safety topics.
CHILD SAFETY SEAT PROGRAM
– The National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) statisics show that 98
percent of all child passenger safety seats are installed improperly.
Working together to reduce this number, Lee County Health Department and
Estero Fire Rescue offers a clinic that will inspect your child car seat. The inspection is conducted by trained Child
Passenger Safety Seat Technicians who are certified by NHTSA.
